Protect Our Nations Youth

PONY is an international baseball organization just like Little League and Cal Ripkin. PONY baseball was founded in the 1950's. There are over 500,000 kids playing baseball in the PONY organization world wide. PONY holds WORLD SERIES every year starting at 8 years of age, teams from all over the world compete to be WORLD CHAMPIONS.

In 2017 Southwest Lexington had 3 teams compete in the PONY tournaments. Our 8u team earned RUNNER UP in the National Championships in Illinois. Our 9u team competed in the World Series in Los Angeles Ca. against team from California, the Philippines and Panama. Our 10u team earned a spot in the North Zone QUARTER FINALS in Illinois. Our 6u tee ball team, won most of the tournaments they competed in locally.

Our league is beginning its 45th year of baseball. We play all our games at Cardinal Run Park which is located on Parkers Mill Rd. Cardinal Run Park, built in the year 2000, is Lexington's newest and nicest baseball/softball complex.

Southwest PONY league is unique in Lexington youth baseball for several reasons.

-  NO BOUNDARIES - Since we are the only PONY league in Central Ky, families can join from all over.

- Ages 3 - 13 can play in our league, which is the widest age range available in Lexington area

- Kids safety is our number 1 priority, EVERY VOLUNTEER must pass a federal background check

- We are the only league in Lexington that start REAL baseball at 9 years old, full major league rules (lead offs, steal on the pitcher, etc)

- Every player on every team plays in the field and bats every game, other leagues sit kids the whole game.

SWLPB SPRING 2018 - Spring 2018

Southwest Pony baseball is committed to teaching young players the fundamentals of baseball, good sportsmanship and fair-play. We welcome 3 - 13 year players (Ages based on age as of April 30, 2018 for divisions 4-13 and for 3U age is as of August 30, 2018). Each division is divided into a two-year age bracket in order to maintain fair competition for all (exceptions due to a players ability can be granted on a case by case basis). All players are guaranteed placement on a team in one of the following divisions:

  • WEE-BALL(T-Ball) division is for 3 year old players.
  • SHETLAND MINOR (T-ball) division is for 4 year old players.
  • SHETLAND (T-ball) division is for 5-6 year old players (with an occasional 4 year old player based on ability),
  • PINTO division is for 7-8 year old players and the ball is pitched by a coach.
  • MUSTANG division is for 9-10 year old players, with players pitching at a distance of 48 feet, base distances 60 feet and playing full baseball rules.
  • PONY division is for 11-13 year old players, with players pitching at a distance of 50', base distances 70' and playing full baseball rules.
The ages for the divisions are as of April 30, 2018, for the 2018 spring season. Spring ages are used for Fall ball , so the children can prepare for the appropriate division. For example, a child that is 8, but will be 9 on April 12, 2018 would play both fall 2017 and spring 2018 as a 9 year old in the Mustang division.

Our games are played at one of Lexington's premier youth baseball complexes, Cardinal Run. Cardinal Run park is a multi-million dollar facility operating six playing fields.

Southwest Pony has NO LEAGUE BOUNDARIES (unlike other leagues)! We welcome players from all over Lexington, Nicholasville, Wilmore, Georgetown, Richmond, Versailles and more!
